With her infant son bound to her back, she single-handedly rescued Captain Clark’s journals from the Missouri whitewater when their boat capsized. If she had not, much of the record of the first year of the expedition would have been lost to history.
Most crucially, however, Sacagawea and her infant served as a “white flag” of peace for the expedition, which was as much a military expedition as a scientific one. They entered potentially hostile territory well armed but undermanned compared to the Native American tribes they met. Because no war party was ever accompanied by a woman and infant, the response of the Native Americans was curiosity, not aggression. They talked first, and Sacagawea often served as the translator. Wind Creek’s launch of online gambling came much later than many of its peers in Pennsylvania. Gaming control board spokesperson Richard McGarvey confirmed Wind Creek is the ninth casino to offer online gambling in Pennsylvania. The first was Parx Casino in Bucks County, which had its online gambling opening day on July 17, 2019. Mount Airy Casino Resort in Monroe County launched its online offering, which includes slots, tables and poker, on Nov. 6, 2019.
In June, Pennsylvania recorded online gambling revenue of $50 million, which was down slightly from $55 million in May. The state’s internet gambling revenue, however, has more than doubled since March when revenue stood at just shy of $25 million. That boost came during coronavirus-induced shutdowns of the state’s brick-and-mortar casinos.
While the state’s casinos have now reopened — Wind Creek Bethlehem opened in late June — capacity is limited and several restrictions are in place to keep people socially distanced.
Back when the property was still Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, the gaming control board approved the facility for an online gambling license in October 2018. Then-owner Las Vegas Sands Corp. had agreed to pursue the online gambling certificate for the property as part of the deal to sell the Bethlehem casino to Wind Creek.
The property’s $1.3 billion sale to Wind Creek, which closed May 31, 2019, is the only reason Las Vegas Sands submitted the online gambling petition. The company’s Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson has long been a firm opponent of online gambling.

The Eagle was a make of motor coach with a long and interesting history. During a period of over four decades, some 8,000 Eagle coaches were built in four countries on two continents. In 1954, Greyhound introduced the 40-foot-long, two-level General Motors PD 4501 Scenicruiser. This sent its main rival, Continental Trailways, on a hunt for a unique design of its own. It first contacted Flxible of Loudonville, Ohio. Flxible agreed to produce Continental’s dream coach on condition that Continental paid all design and tooling costs up front. As Continental had bought the Santa Fe Trail Transportation Company (the large bus operations of the Santa Fe Railway) in 1948 and transcontinental carrier American Buslines in 1953, they were not flush with cash at the time and started looking elsewhere. Mack, Beck and Fitzjohn either couldn’t or wouldn’t build this new bus (Beck and Fitzjohn were out of business by 1958 and Mack left the bus and coach business in 1960) unless the upfront costs were paid in advance.
That sent Maurice E. Moore, Continental’s CEO, to Europe looking for a supplier. Eventually he made an agreement with the German manufacturer Kässbohrer for the production of a prototype, which was completed in 1956 and shipped to Houston. In the meantime Moore ordered 113 Vista-Liner 100 coaches from Flxible for delivery in 1955 and 1956. The Vista-Liner (commonly called the VL100) was an advanced two level design but it was only 35 feet long with eight fewer seats than the Scenicruiser. The difference in height between decks was about of half that of the Scenicruiser so it had much less space underneath for baggage and package express shipments. The VL100 had some design input from Continental. It was also noticeably underpowered (it had a 175 HP Cummins JT-600 diesel engine) which caused certain timetables to be adjusted on longer journeys. On the other hand, the VL100 had BF Goodrich Torsilastic suspension (independent on the front wheels) for an excellent ride and a very fresh exterior design. The suspension and certain visual design aspects of the VL100 were integrated into the design of the future Eagle coaches that Kässbohrer built as Setras.
The first 55 Golden Eagles were built by Kässbohrer. The first Golden Eagle was a prototype that differed in a number of ways from the production versions. After about a year in service Continental placed an order for 50 more modified versions based on lessons learned from the prototype. The largest external difference was a new design for the six-piece windshield because drivers complained that the original design had them baking in the Texas sun even with air conditioning. They were part of an order for 185 highway coaches manufactured under a contract with Continental Trailways. Of this original group, four were articulatedSuper Golden Eagles. All of these coaches were of the ’Setra Design’ which meant that they were ’integral’ coaches without a separate body and chassis. Golden Eagles originally contained an aircraft-style galley plus a rear lounge that had two tables with pairs of facing seats, observation windows and other luxury features such as piped in music, newspapers and magazines. An on-board hostess served snacks and drinks en route and other amenities such as pillows and blankets were available. The exterior aluminum siding was anodized in gold, hence the Golden Eagle name. The standard version without the galley and lounge was called the Silver Eagle because the aluminum siding was in silver. 41 Silver Eagles followed their Golden Eagle sisters down Kässbohrer’s production line in 1958 and became the standard fleet bus for Continental Trailways. The first Eagle buses were powered by MAN D1566 diesel engines and ZF Media preselector six speed transmissions from Germany. The four Super Golden Eagles had more powerful Rolls Royce diesel engines. No Eagles were produced in 1959 while Continental gained experience with its new fleet. Continental suggested a number of design changes to Kässbohrer that included a new front end and a standard American powertrain. The result was the NEW Silver Eagle model that was to be produced in 1960 and 1961. Most NEW Silver Eagles had Cummins 300 HP NRTO engines but the last ones made arrived in the US without engines as General Motors released the Detroit Diesel 8V-71 engine and these were installed when the buses arrived.
All older Eagles, except the four Super Golden Eagles, received 8V-71 engines and Spicer four-speed manual transmissions to replace their original power packages. Continental also bought two other Setra articulated buses in 1957 for service from Denver to the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. They were not high level buses and lacked underfloor luggage space. They were standard Setra buses with separate Setra bodies and Henschel chassis for their European customers rather than something designed for the US market. They had nothing in common with the Eagle coaches that Setra built for Continental and were powered with Cummins underfloor engines.
Around the same time in 1959 that Continental and Kässbohrer were agreeing on the details of the second generation of the Eagle (the NEW Silver Eagle, mentioned above), Kässbohrer decided to concentrate exclusively on building coaches for the rapidly growing European market. At this point, Continental Trailways was forced to find a European partner. They found one in the form of the Belgian transportation equipment manufacturer La Brugeoise et Nivelles (Bruges and Nivelles, the two cities where they had factories). La Brugeoise, as they were commonly known, helped Continental to form its own bus manufacturing company, Bus & Car Co, NV. La Brugeoise et Nivelles (later known as BN and today part of Bombardier Transportation) worked with Bus & Car to set up a new factory in Sint Michels bij Brugge. La Brugeoise had a long history of building railway and tramway equipment including PCC streetcars built under license from the Transit Research Corporation in the US.
Kässbohrer sold the tooling and spare parts to Continental Trailways and agreed to furnish most of the parts needed for the 85 NEW Silver Eagles previously contracted for. La Brugeoise started producing the NEW Silver Eagles (the ones that Kässbohrer would have built) in its Brugge plant late in 1960 with certain parts and materials that Kässbohrer had already built, including steering wheels with the Kässbohrer emblem on the horn button. In the meantime, La Brugeoise helped Bus & Car design its new plant and supervised its construction. La Brugeoise started Eagle production with the Model 01 as soon as the last NEW Silver Eagle rolled off the line. Late in 1961 the Bus & Car factory opened and all Eagle tooling, parts, equipment and production was moved out of the La Brugeoise factory and into the new Bus & Car factory, which was near to the main offices of La Brugeoise. The Model 01 continued in production by Bus & Car but they continued buying the Torsilastic suspension units from La Brugeoise until the end of Eagle production in Europe. In 1968 Continental Trailways spun off the Bus and Car Company to its stockholders. Most of its stockholders were the companies that Continental bought out by means of stock swaps during its large expansion of the 1950s and 1960s The former Bus & Car building still stands and is presently a shopping center. Parts of it had earlier been used as a Rover car dealership, various shops and an indoor downhill ski track with artificial snow. BN went on to build 204 diesel locomotives for the Belgian and Luxembourg Railways with GM 567 engines and many more PCC cars for Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent in Belgium plus The Hague in Holland.
Bus & Car built a number of other models in Belgium for different markets through 1980, and that included right-hand-drive models for Australia and Ireland. They were quite flexible concerning lengths and widths and other details like the number of axles. They also sold new coaches in Canada, Morocco, South Africa, Thailand and across Europe less the United Kingdom. They are detailed in the All Time Eagle Model List below. The Model 05 was introduced as two prototypes in 1967 and production started partway through the 1968 model year and was produced in Belgium and later in the US. The first 05’s had the 05 chassis changes built into the 01 body and the 05 styling changes arrived in 1969. Bus & Car also built three 05 Silver Eagle coaches with Ford Gas turbine engines of 450 HP and 600 HP during 1969. They were used on transcontinental service until the program was terminated about a year later. High fuel consumption, only 4 MPG, and severe reliability problems caused these coaches to be repowered with the standard Detroit Diesel 8V-71 engines.
Another 1969 product of Bus & Car was the Model 07. This was an 05 that was 102 inches wide rather than 96, and 45 were produced. The ’Bus & Car’ name may sound odd as they never made automobiles but the word ’Car’ in this case came from the European term ’Touring Car/Touringcar’ or highway coach as opposed to a local or regional bus. Continental Trailways also had a parts division in the US called Bus & Truck Supply Company. It seems the only truck parts they distributed were those that were common to Eagle coaches such as Detroit Diesel engine parts, Lockheed brakes, Carrier compressors, Spicer transmissions and Ross steering.
In the early 1970s, Trailways drivers and maintainers referred to ’Round’ (01 and 05 Old Look) Eagles and ’Square’ (05 New Look and 07) Eagles based on the body design. The 01 Eagles had the drive axle ahead of the tag axle. The 05 and 07 Eagles had the tag axle ahead of the drive axle, which made them ’interesting’ to drive. The front suspension was very soft with a lot of travel, and since the tag axle torsion bar (mounted crosswise) was also pushing the front end up, some drivers said it was like driving a diving board when driving on certain road surfaces. The front end went up and down at every expansion joint in the road and sometimes the driver had to grip the steering wheel hard to remain seated. On the other hand, Eagles had almost no body roll in curves or corners, unlike buses with air suspension which gave the feeling they were about to tip over when turning. All older Eagles had suspension seats for their drivers, and some drivers would take the hydraulic jack from the tool kit and set it up under their seat to stop its vertical motions.
Trailways Eagles provided a more comfortable ride than Greyhound’s GM and Motor Coach Industries coaches. From the 1960s to the 1980s, Trailways and Greyhound ran competitive services on the Boston-to-New York and New York-to-Washington routes with hourly departures for most of the day. The United States nickel, a five-cent coin still in circulation today, is perhaps best-known for bearing the likeness of former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. There are, however, many different types of nickels collected by numismatists—and not all are alike. Nickels were first minted in the United States in 1866, and nearly all were initially made out of silver and gold. From 1867 to 1868, roughly 30 million nickels were issued, and the coin became wildly popular for its convenience—after all, for 73 years bottles of Coca-Cola only cost five cents.
Today, rare nickels benefit from revived demand among collectors, and though many of the most valuable ones are no longer in circulation, they can be found at auctions, estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops. The history of the nickel dates back to the American Civil War. In 1861, when Southern states began seceding from the Union and the Civil War was underway, America and its currency were in crisis. Widespread panic led to the hoarding of money, especially precious metals like gold and silver. Coins nearly vanished overnight, and the Mint didn’t have enough resources in gold and silver to keep up with demand. Without coinage, it was impossible to make simple daily transactions like buying groceries and sending mail.
After the war ended in 1865, it took months for precious metals to file back into circulation. War production, however, had expanded America’s industrial capacity, and more common metals such as nickel were readily available in large quantities. Because nickel wasn’t a precious metal, people weren’t interested in hoarding it. In 1866, President Andrew Johnson approved a bill authorizing the coinage of five-cent pieces composed of nickel and copper.
This new coin was decorated with a shield, a prominent “5” surrounded by a star and ray design, and featured the words, “In God We Trust.” This “shield” nickel was produced from 1866 until 1883. That same year, the government produced fifteen million five-cent nickels, more than 100 times the number of silver half-dimes produced in the year prior.
Due to manufacturing issues, the Shield nickel was replaced by what is known as the “Liberty Head.” In fact, in the decades that followed, a number of new designs emerged. In 1913, the Buffalo nickel was created, followed by the first Jefferson nickel in 1938. The most recent update to this one occurred in 2006, when President Jefferson’s image changed from a profile to a frontal portrait. The rise of coin-operated machines like vending machines and jukeboxes further solidified the nickel as an indispensable coin.Types of NickelsShield Nickel Series (1866–1883)

Though Shield nickels are not among the most popular coins collected in the U.S., some of the more rare dated versions can hold significant value. Shield nickels were produced at only one Mint (Philadelphia) and have no mintmark as a result. Therefore, a date set would only consist of sixteen coins. Values of rare Shield nickels start around $18, where this minimum value is assigned to a common date, heavily worn coin. An 1879 or 1880 shield nickel can climb in value, anywhere from $200 to over $1,000 depending on condition.Liberty Head Series (1883–1912)

The Liberty Head nickel is often referred to as the “V” nickel because of its reverse design. Its history is rich with production errors and scandals. Chief engraver at the Mint Charles E. Barber was tasked with creating the design, and large quantities were produced for nearly thirty years. The Mint added the word “cents” to the reverse of the coin after some started to gold-plate the coin and pass them off as five dollar gold pieces. This omission led to two varieties in the first year of production.
In 1913, a Mint employee produced five Liberty Head nickels. It is believed that he used coin dies in case the dies for the Buffalo nickel were not ready for production in time. Today, these nickels are worth millions of dollars. Otherwise, the value of a V Nickel depends largely on its scarcity and date—an 1889 V Nickel in good condition can be priced around $10, while fair market value for an 1885 V Nickel in uncirculated condition can be upwards of $1,500.Buffalo Nickel Series (1913)

The Buffalo nickel series was minted for 25 years, and serves as an icon of American coinage. It was one of the first U.S. coins with a design that depicted scenes of the country’s historical roots—one side featured a Native American and the other featured a buffalo standing atop a natural landscape. Today, it is extremely popular amongst collectors.
Those in outstanding condition, naturally, can be worth more than those in poor condition. While, generally speaking, Buffalo nickels tend to be rarer and more valuable the older they are, age is not the singular defining factor of the Buffalo Nickel’s value. Those from the first few years of minting that are carefully preserved are highly sought after. Other key dates for Buffalo nickels include:

Condition is one of the main determinants of a nickel’s value, and a rigorous system of grading coins is used. Coin grades are as follows:
*Poor (PO-1): Also known as Basal State, these coins are hardly recognizable and often large parts of the design and/or date are missing.
*Fair(FR-2): Though enough of the date should be visible to identify the coin, lettering may be completely gone and images are hardly visible.
*About Good(AG-3): Also referred to as “Almost Good,” most of the design of the coin is outlined; however, rims will have worn far enough into the design to obliterate parts of the lettering.
*Good(G-4, 6): The general design of the coin is outlined, but some parts are weak. Though non-collectors often refer to their coins as being in “Good” condition, these are still very worn coins.
*Fine(F-12, 15): All seven letters of the word LIBERTY should be visible with minor wear and tear on the coin.
*Very Fine(VF-20, 25, 30, 35): All general details are visible, and the coin has medium to light wear. All seven letters of the word LIBERTY are strongly visible.
*Extremely Fine (XF-40, 45): There may be some traces of mint luster, but the coin has light wear overall.
*About Uncirculated (AU-50, 53, 55, 58): Extremely light wear with only a trace of friction on the highest points.

Mintmarks help identify coins stamped at each of the United States Mint facilities. The presence or absence of a mintmark can result in a great disparity in the value of your nickel. Throughout the 20th century, inventions such as mass produced coin boards coupled with the newly presented availability of information about coins’ value to the general public enhanced the appeal of coin collecting greatly. Today, it has become an appealing hobby as new issues are being saved and many coins are available in attractive, uncirculated grades. A 1907 Indian head penny is one of those years readily available in heavily worn condition. With so many minted (the largest number in any year) and at the ending of the series, large numbers remain. However, top condition examples are elusive and avidly collected. Pictured is a gem quality 1907 penny, considered one to the finest condition. These are old Indian head pennies worth money. Although not as well known as the Lincoln cent, the Indian Head cent is an iconic coin that is sought after by both new and seasoned collectors. This is because of their relatively low cost and general scarcity.
First minted in 1859 to replace the larger Flying Eagle cent, the Indian Head cent experienced a 50 year production period that saw the use of two different compositions. The entire coin was designed in 1859 by US Mint engraver James B. Longacre.
On the Obverse, the coin features a rendition of Liberty facing left, wearing a traditional Indian headdress. The words “United States” are found to the left of Lady Liberty’s bust and “Of America” is found to the right. The date can be found centered directly below the bust of Liberty.
Longacre’s design for the reverse of the Indian Head penny is very simplistic, with the motto “One Cent” encircled by a wreath. A group of arrows can be found at the bottom of the wreath and small shield at the top.
Over the 50 years of production, the Indian Head penny has only gone through one major composition change. The first year of production in 1859 saw the coin minted in a bronze alloy. The next year the mint changed to a copper nickel composition that lasted until mid-1864.

At the turn of the century, Indian Head Pennies were being minted in larger and larger quantities to help meet consumer demand.
The 1907 Indian Head penny, in particular, had one of the highest mintages in the series, with 108 million minted. Compared to the 1859 Indian Head Penny that had only 36 million pieces minted, the 1907 Indian Head Penny is relatively common.

Like all other coins, the 1907 Indian Head Penny’s value directly depends on the condition of the coin. Since the 1907 coin is a relatively common one, there are many examples that can be found in a higher grade.
Grading is based on the 70 point Sheldon Scale, where 70 is a perfect coin and 1 describes a severely damaged/worn coin. Here are some basic rules to help you determine the grade of your 1907 Indian Head Penny.

Good 4 - Extensive wear can be seen on the surfaces of the coin. The date is readable, and the bust of Liberty is worn, but is clearly separate from the surface of the coin. Most details of Liberty’s head band and face have been worn away. Although worn, the coin lacks any deformities or scratches.

Fine 12 - Wear is still evident across the entirety of the coin, but more details can be seen, mainly on Liberty. The word “Liberty” is full but faint on Liberty’s head band. Other details like Liberty’s hair and cheek are more defined.

Extra Fine 45 - Only a slight amount of wear across Liberty on the obverse and the wreath on the reverse. “Liberty” is full and the lines in the feathers of the head dress are sharp.

Uncirculated or Mint State 60 - Zero wear evident with strong red luster or slight brown toning. All details full and sharp, particularly the diamonds in Liberty’s head band.Value of the 1907 Indian Head Penny
Because of the large number minted, the 1907 Indian Head Penny is extremely affordable due to significant numbers of coins remaining.
Most 1907 Indian Head Pennies are in Good 4 condition because of their popularity and heavy use in circulation. The average price for a 1907 Indian Head Penny in Good 4 condition is about $1.
In higher grades such as Extra Fine, the value of the 1907 Indian Head Penny increases slightly, with prices hovering around $7.
The most expensive 1907 Indian Head Pennies are those that are still in Uncirculated condition. With prices for ungraded Uncirculated examples at $28 and Uncirculated pieces graded by a third party starting at $100.
1907 Indian Head Pennies in exceptional condition and that are graded MS-63 by a third party grading company can command prices above $200. Only 50 examples of the 1907 Indian Head Penny have been graded at MS-63 or higher by third party grader PCGS.
